After a late November thunderstorm spawned a half mile wide tornado that touched down in Loves Park, Illinois, New South Equipment Mats received a phone call from ComEd to provide access for crews scrambling to repair damaged transmission lines responsible for supplying thousands of customers with power.After surveying the jobsite and determining the job’s needs, New South Equipment Mats was able to design a temporary roadway using a runner system with Emtek mats, the only mat that has engineered certified load ratings.The runner system was able to reduce the amount of mats needed, dramatically cutting down the amount of freight costs involved, which lead to a reduction in costs over 35% compared to using traditional matting and techniques.

New South Equipment Mats supplied matting for this year’s 12th annual Voodoo Fest in New Orleans, Louisiana. Headlining musicians at this year’s Voodoo Fest include Ozzy Osbourne, Weezer, Macy Gray, and Muse.
New South’s involvement with Voodoo Fest was part of the companies increasing amount of involvement with the entertainment industry. Previous events New South has participated in include concerts at The Hangout involving Jimmy Buffett and Bon Jovi, as well as use on multiple movie sets.
